Imagine yourself exploring the stunning mountains that make up the Lake District. Rolling ridges, craggy mountain tops and shimmering lakes below your feet. The Lake District has breathtaking scenery and is steeped in history making it a fantastic place to explore and discover for yourself. Your guide will help choose routes that suit the group leaving you feeling challenged yet inspired and wanting to do even more!


Occupying 885 square miles of scenic splendor, England’s Lake District is a National Park containing the highest peaks, deepest valleys and longest lakes in the country. The natural beauty of its picturesque villages and emerald green hills and vales enthralls walkers. Breathe in the stunning vistas and peaceful scenery, and connect with the history of the Lakeland.


The walks are aimed at experienced walkers with a reasonable level of fitness. The routes will be between 6 and 9 miles per day with between 1,000 and 2,000 feet of ascent overall. 

 

England's Lake District has joined ranks with the Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu by being named an Unesco World Heritage site.

Day 1    Arrive late morning/early afternoon and settle into your Lakeland Hotel where lunch is available. In the afternoon meet your guide and take a get acquainted stroll round the 17 C village of Troutbeck visiting the village Church  with its superb east window followed by a visit to Historic 17C Town End Farm with views up the Troutbeck Valley where Beatrix Potter owned land and practiced traditional sheep farming methods. Return to the hotel for our Welcome Dinner.

 

Day 2 After breakfast we walk directly from the hotel to the resort Town of Ambleside for an opportunity to pick up any last minute items for the tour. A challenging hike takes a higher level route via the summit of Wansfell, a majestic viewpoint in fine weather for the central Lake District. An easier optional hike is available. After lunch we drive to the Village of Grasmere for a visit to Dove Cottage the home of Romantic Poet William Wordsworth and a visit to St Oswalds Historic Church.

 

Day 3 We drive over the magnificent Kirkstone Pass at an altitude of 1500 feet to the village of Glenridding. Here we take a Lake Steamer across The Lake District’s stunning second largest Lake, Ullswater to Howtown where we begin a splendid hike along the lake shore with outstanding views and photo opportunities at every turn. We return by our mini coach to a welcome relaxing evening dinner at our hotel.

 

Day 4 Today we travel north by coach to our second hotel in the heart of Borrowdale. En- route we visit the ancient mysterious Stone Circle at Castlerigg on the outskirts of Keswick. We then travel westward to stunning Buttermere in the heart of the northern fells and a stroll around Buttermere Lake. We then continue our drive to the hotel vial the Newlands Pass into Borrowdale with stunning views along the entire route.

 

Day 5 We walk directly from the hotel and ascend through scenic woodland following the Lodore Waterfalls to is source at Watendlath , an isolated hamlet with a small Tarn and delightful  tea room. After lunch we continue our hike with more stunning views to a second Hamlet of Rosthwaite, returning to the hotel following the river Derwent.

 

Day 6 Weather permitting, we offer a fabulous opportunity to hike to the top of Catbells with breathtaking views overlooking Derwent Water, Keswick Town and the magnificent northern fells. An easier option is a stroll along the fell at a lower altitude. We then take a launch into the bustling ancient town of Keswick before transferring back to our hotel for our farewell dinner.

 

Day 7 Depart after breakfast.

Traveling By Rail

There are direct trains from Manchester Airport to both Penrith and Windermere, though at certain times of day the quickest option may involve a change of train at Preston, Lancaster or Oxenholme.

From Windermere to the hotel will take about 50 minutes in a taxi, and from Penrith about 40 minutes.

 

Both journeys are possible by bus, but both will require one change at Keswick.
